Hey ladies – the Kentucky Derby was May 5th, which means hat season is in full swing! Let’s take a look at a few past glories from this year’s races to glean inspiration for summer weddings, the beach, or whenever you feel like wearing a fabulous hat – because you can!
First up is a creative take on the classic hat donned by ladies who have real flowers applied to their hats the day of the races. This hat’s fabric flowers are so chic and a fresh take on this season’s strong color blocking trend. Another plus is the gorgeously huge wire brim can be easily molded to suit the wearer’s fancy.
This feathery explosion is technically a fascinator, but it certainly has enough volume to be a hat. The subtle gothic accents on the neckline of the dress allow the hat to take the spotlight and pull together the outfit, while her minimal make-up accentuates the overall look.
This fascinator may remind you of a parrot at first glance, but its elegant placement along with her minimal hair, make-up, and coordinating earrings make it work. Definitely not an everyday look, but certainly drool-worthy flair.
Think feathers are outdated? Well, that’s not possible at the Kentucky Derby. Besides, this sleek metallic feathered hat should convince you otherwise. You may have to look twice to make sure she’s not a beautiful statue!
This fun hand-made sundial hat counts down the minutes until the 6pm post time of the 138th Kentucky Derby. Plus, it ties in with the rest of the black, white, metallic, and classy-all-over outfit!
So before you watch the Preakness at Pimlico this Saturday, gather your girlfriends, glue guns, floppy hats, artificial flowers, and get crafty! Be sure to root for I’ll Have Another in the second leg of the Triple Crown while you sip a mint julep, as there hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. See you on the other side, Maryland, My Maryland.
